REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Jakarta Provincial Government plans to build five new public markets to accommodate street vendors in Jakarta. Director of PD Pasar Jaya (a regional owned government company which manage all public markets in Jakarta -Ed), Djangga Lubis said these public markets would be free for street vendors.
"No rental fee. But, they still have to pay operational fees including for electricity power, security, and waste management," Lubis said recently.
Five new public markets will be built across five administrative areas, namely Pasar Manggis (South Jakarta), Nangka Bungur (Central Jakarta), Kampung Duri (West Jakarta) and Kebon Bawang (North Jakarta). Government was still discussing the project in East Jakarta, Lubis said.
Those five public markets are different to regular, because each market is smaller than regular market. The areas range from 100 square meters to 300 square meters. Each market can accommodate about 100 vendors.
