Australian Newspapers: US and Britain bug Indonesian president

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Two Australian newspapers, the Age and the Sydney Morning Herald, reported that US and Britain bugged Presiden Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono during G20 summit in London in 2009. Quoted some undisclosed sources, both newspaper wrote that data obtain from the bugging were also used by Australia. 

"President was aware of the indication, but we do not know yet his reaction," a presidential spokesperson Teuku Faizasyah said on Monday.

Both Australian newspaper wrote, "Prime Minister of Australia, Kevin Rudd received benefits from the spring activities during G20 Summit 2009 in London. The prime minister Rudd was soo keen on information of intelligence, especially about Asia Pacific leaders, including Yudhoyono, Manmohan Singh (Prime Minister of India) and Hu Jintao (former President of China)." The results are used to support Australian diplomatic purposes, including supports to win a non permanent member's seat at the UN Security Council. 

"Without support of US intelligence, we would not win the seat," the newspapers quoted an official at Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
