Yeay... Australia’s The Cat Empire to rock Jakarta tonight!

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The Australian Embassy Jakarta is proud to present one of Australia’s most diverse and talented jazz funk bands The Cat Empire, at The Foundry Jakarta on tonight, Nov 8, 2014. 

It is the final performance of the Embassy’s Arts and Culture Program 2014, according to a written statement from The Australian Embassy in Jakarta. The Cat Empire will be sharing the stage with popular Indonesian jazz and soul music band, Maliq & D’Essentials. 

The Cat Empire’s multi-genre line up of songs, which includes jazz, reggae, funk, latin, gypsy and hip hop, is sure to wow audiences. Formed in Melbourne in 1999, this internationally renowned band consists of six members, Felix Riebl (percussion and vocals), Harry James Angus (trumpet and vocals), Will Hull-Brown (drums), Jamshid Khadilawa (decks and percussion), Ollie McGill (keyboard and backing vocals) and Ryan Monro (bass and backing vocals). The Cat Empire is a band known for being able to get any audience up and moving to their tunes.

Indonesian jazz band, Maliq & D’Essentials, will also be performing their distinctive mix of jazz and funk on the night. Maliq & D’Essentials became popular in 2005 and have since been nominated for and received numerous Indonesian music awards including Anugerah Musik Indonesia and MTV Indonesia Music Awards.

 Jakarta-based music fans will be able to hear tunes from The Cat Empire on local radio stations Thrax FM, Mustang FM, Hard Rock FM and Global FM.

 The Australian Embassy’s Arts and Cultural Program 2014 has run from March through to now and has included music, visual art exhibitions, dance, literature, textiles, sport and a science and innovation seminar series. The program has also included arts residencies and exchanges involving artists from both countries.
