Sriwijaya Air to add nine new aircrafts

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Private airline, PT Sriwijaya Air plans to add nine new aircrafts by the end of this year. Director of Finance in Sriwijaya Air, Gabriella Sonia Bongoro said company wanted to increase its market share and its competition in aviation industry.

"We have been doing rejuvenation for 38 existing aircrafts. Two new types of aircrafts, Boeing 737-800 will come next week," Bongoro said on Monday.

Five new aircrafts are purchased in cash, while four aircrafts are paid in a lease from internal cash. However, Bongoro did not explain the total costs of nine new aircrafts. Sriwijaya Air carried 800 thousand passengers per month.

President Director of Sriwijaya Air, Chandra Lie said that the additional fleet would anticipate surge of passengers as company had added some new routes. Sriwijaya Air will add nine international routes in three countries, namely seven routes in China, Bangkok (Thailand) and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). Untill now, Sriwijaya Air had only three international routes, Penang (Kuala Lumpur), Singapore, and Dili (East Timor).

Sriwijaya Air will also add domestic routes, Nusa Tenggara and Papua. The company targets 10 million passengers, operates 250 times airlines and 41 international flights. Passenger load factor of Sriwijaya Air has reached 95 percent. Average occupancy rate of passengers in Sriwijaya Air has reached 90 percent.
