REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - At least 1,150 workers of two foreign companies in Indonesia unlikely will receive Eid al Fitr allowance (THR) this year. Secretary General of Cross Factory Labour Forum (FBLP) Dian Septi Trisnanti explained that about 400 workers certainly would not receive the allowance, while rest had not yet received confirmation.

"These workers can not celebrate and meet needs of their homecoming trips in Eid. Four hundred workers are employee of PT Asian Collection (a South Korean company) in Cilincing, North Jakarta, while the rest are employee of PT Usi Apparel, a garment company," Trisnanti said on Sunday.

Currently, many Indonesian workers do not have good bargaining power when they face their employers. But jobs are hard to find and they are left in helpless situation.

Public lawyer at Legal Aid Institute of Jakarta, Maruli Tua Rajagukguk explained that no Eid allowance meant the employer violated employment regulation in Indonesia. The regulation says that Eid allowance must be paid no later than seven days before Eid.
