REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PEKALONGAN - Chairman of Indonesian Mosque Council, Jusuf Kalla said that mosques should avoid blaring sound from loud speaker.

"We need the rule because it's more comfortable if we can listen to adzan (prayer call) and Quran recitation only from one mosque," Kalla said on Wednesday, referred to "competing loud sound" from a number of mosques at the same time within nearby area.

Kalla said the rule did not mean to ban the use of loud speaker in mosques, but people needed to avoid such annoying sound instead. Indonesian Mosque Council will arrange sound system program of 1,500 mosques in Indonesia each year. Kalla said the problem related to blaring and annoying sound from mosques might not a big issue. But, without adressing it properly, this issue can cause some discomfort in society.
