REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, DEPOK - Terrorism researcher of International Crisis Group (ICG), Sidney Jones said danger of terrorists would still exists in Indonesia.

"But, the current generation of terrorists is incompetent and local issue has driven terrorism today," Jones said on Tuesday.

Jones cited that terrorism resurgent in Indonesia in 1971 with the birth of Komando Jihad. "Terrorism gains symphaty easily in conflict region. During 1996-1999, they came to Palu tuk recruit people affected by conflict," she added.

"Today 'terrorists' only involve in small fight (home ground) with police with smaller number of victims," Jones said.

Hence, terrorism today is no longer part of global network. Terrorists in Indonesia now only equipped with low tech, low competence or very amateur, poor vetting recruitment. But Jones also highlighted the weak prison system in Indonesia, poor internal monitor, weak in bureaucracy and monitoring the ex-inmates.
