REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The National Family Planning Coordinating Board (NFPCB) notes that Indonesian population grows eight million people this year or equal to the population of Singapore. Head of NFPCB, Fasli Jalal said the uncontrolled population growth could impact on many aspects of life, including problems in the economy and welfare.

"It is like Indonesia 'spawns' one Singapore every year," Jalal said on Monday.

In 2010, NFPCB recorded total population in Indonesia reached 237,641,326 people. Indonesia's population growth rate is still high at 4.7 million births, while the mortality rate is 1.4 million.

At least, Indonesian government has managed to reduce 100 thousand births per year. Without family planning program, Indonesian population would have reach 375 millions people this year.
