Obama's younger sister visits two campuses in Yogyakarta

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA - Dr. Maya Soetoro, a half sister of the United States President, Barack Obama, gave public lectures at two campuses in Yogyakarta, Indonesian Islamic University (UII) and Gadjah Mada University (UGM) on Monday. Soetoro represented University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM).

"UHM and UII has signed cooperation to advance education sector since last year. UHM also provided scholarships program for UII students as part of the cooperation," Soetoro said on Monday.

Now, there are two UII students studying at UHM. Next step, this cooperation will continue to faculty level or other program. UHM and UII has been cooperating since last year. The cooperation was initiated by Faculty of Civil Engineering and Planning (FTSP) UII, Faculty of Social Science, and UHM.

Soetoro continued to visit UGM, where welcoming dinner was held on Monday night. At UGM, Soetoro acted as guest lecturer. She spoke about the Education for Peace. Head of Public Relations of UGM, Wijayanti said the event also attended by Governor of Yogyakarta, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono  X.
