SBY: Papuan office in Oxford harms relationship of Indonesia-UK

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesian government continues to protest the establishment of 'Papua Merdeka' representative office in Oxford, the United Kingdom (UK). President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono expressed his dismay to it.

Yudhoyono considered that the office had disrupted relationship between the two countries although UK government stated continue to support the Indonesia. "The UK government expressed their support to the Indonesia. However, the office will disrupt relationship between UK and Indonesia," he said on Tuesday.

Yudhoyono said that Indonesian government had expressed opposition and distaste through Ministry of Foreign Affairs by filed a protest note. 'Papua Merdeka' office was opened on April 28, 2013. The opening was attended by Mayor of Oxford Mohammed Niaz Abbasi, member of British Parlement Andrew Smith and former Mayor of Oxford Elise Benjamin.
