REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Ministry of Transportation will conduct special audit related to crash landing of a Lion Air jet off Bali (B737-800NG) on Saturday. The audit will include condition of the aircraft, maintenance, pilot, and management of airplane.

"Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will conduct a special audit, other than regular audit every two years," Minister of Transportation Evert Ernest Mangindaan said on Monday. DGCA will also supervise audit on other airlines to prevent similar accident occurs in the future.

The pilot of Lion also now is suspended for two weeks while the ariline has to prepare financial compensation for its passengers.

Flight data recorder in the crash plane has been found and brought to Jakarta. All the equipment on navigation reported in good condition. Now, the team are still evacuating for voice cockpit recorder (VCR) which traped at the tail.

Such accident is not the first time for Lion Air. The airline's aircrafts crashed 20 times in last 10 years. Manager of the Indonesian Consumer Protection Foundation (YLKI) Sudaryatmo explained the aircraft perhaps had been expanding a little too fast. The accident might be caused by weak supervision combined with a large number of aircraft.

"Number of aircraft continues to rise combined with weak," Sudaryatmo said on phone, Monday.

The case in Denpasar should send warning signal that the government must be extra careful to supervise Lion Air. The number of Lion Air's aircraft continues to grow fast despite some accidents occur. Now the airline's fleet even outnumbers Garuda Indonesia, the biggest state owned company.
