REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, NUSA DUA - Indonesia hosted the third Coral Triangle Business Forum in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Sunday. The Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Sharif C Sutardjo, said the forum was an effective regional challenge to help maintaining business profit for long term.

Sutardjo said that government monitored sustainability of limited marine resources and prosperity of million people whose life depend on coral triangle. The forum aims to explore the concept of 'blue economy' in the region.

"With the implementation of blue economy, Indonesia will accelerate business growth and at the same time it maintains its environment," he said on Sunday. 

Coral Triangle is a marine area located in the western Pacific Ocean. It covers the water of Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Solomon Islands and Timor Leste. The region has a staggering number of corals and more than 2,000 species of reef fish. Changing climate and over exploitation threaten coastal communities and imperil fragile reefs.
