REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Akbar Tanjung, suggested President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to immediately appoint a new Minister of Youth and Sports. The current minister Andi Mallarareng stepped down after KPK named him as a suspect of Hambalang sports complex graft case.

"Youth and sports are important as well as urgent. SBY must appoint a new minister and inaugurate him soon," Tandjung said on Friday, commenting Mallarangeng's resignation.

Tandjung emphasized that the president could appoint a new minister because it was his prerogative right. He expected SBY to inaugurate a new minister in just couples of day.

"President can find the replacement from Democrat Party, coalition party, or a professional. The most important thing is that the newly appointed minister must understand about youth and sports," he said.
