REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG - The government has set itself a target to have some 3,500 ophthalmologists employed across the country by 2014, according to deputy health affairs minister Ali Gufron Mukti. The target aims at eradicating blindness.
"Employment of 3,500 ophthalmologists is a part of the government`s plan to eradicate blindness in Indonesia," he said on Friday.
According to Ali Gufron, the government has already employed about 1,500 ophthalmologists throughout the country in its efforts to deal with the public health problem. "Our ophthalmologists are working in many remote areas, such as along our border with Malaysia," he stated.
