A drunken driver hit seven in Jakarta

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - A red hatchback car driven by a drunken driver hit seven pedestrians in Taman Sari, West Jakarta, on Thursday. No one was dead, but the victims were wounded. The driver is identified as Novi Amalia (25 years), a model of a magazine. She was allegedly depressed as she was driving while wearing only underwear.

The Chief of Traffic Management at West Jakarta Police Department, Rahmat Dahlizar, said the accident happened at 17.00 local time. The car was driven in normal speed before it hit a coffee stall and street hawker. The car was unstable but the driver rejected to stop.

A Traffic Police Officer named Suyanto tried to stop the car. But, the car hit him and ran over his right foot. Then, the car hit two motorcycles drivers. Another police, Suyatno, tried to stop him. But, the beautiful driver still refused to stop. Instead, her car hit him.

The car was forced to stop after it hit two buses. People around the scene were furious. They destroyed Amalia's car. Amalia, being half naked, tried to escape from the scene but the police successfully arrested her.

The spokesman of Jakarta Police Department, Rikwanto, said Amalia was driving after consuming alcohol. She positively consumed drugs after police tested her urine. Amalia also admitted that she drank alcohol and ecstasy before driving from her apartment in Central Jakarta to Ancol.
