REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to deliver statement on Monday, on the last weekend's standoff between Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and National Police. The plan was encourged by some political parties, Vice Minister of Laws and Human Rights Denny Indrayana said on Saturday.

Indrayana said that the Friday night incident was a sequence of many cases including driving liscence's (SIM's) simulator corruption case. The polemic between KPK and Police, he continued, was mixed with the issue on effort to weaken KPK.

He explained that the issue emerged from the plan to revise Laws on KPK, recalling of Police investigators in KPK, and an attempt to arrest KPK investigator Novel Baswedan. Novel Baswedan was also involved in the investigation of SIM simulator case. Baswedan was Police investigator, but he refused to go back to the institution.

"It is the time for President to explain to civilians what we have done," he said. KPK, he added, was still an essential institution to combat corruption. President also urged both sides, KPK as well as the police, to meet Coordinating Minister of Politics, Law, and Security for mediation.
