US representative offices closed on Friday

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - US representative offices in Indonesia was closed temporarily on Friday as precaution towards more demonstration over the film Innocence of Muslims. Offices that are closed include the US Embassy and US Mission to ASEAN in Jakarta, the US Consulate General in Surabaya, the American Presence Post in Medan and US Consular Agency in Denpasar.

"We apologize for the inconvenience. We advise you to prevent rallies and other meetings that may lead to violence. We will monitor the situation and give further information," US Embassy said in a press release in Thursday.

The embassy also urged American citizens living and traveling in Indonesia to update their contact information to the nearest US representative office. The registration is to ease US Mission to contact American citizens in emergency.

Thousands of people from various organizations in Jakarta held a demonstration in front of the US Embassy on September 17 afternoon, protesting against the anti-Islam movie, `Innocence of Muslims`, produced by an American and posted on YouTube. 

Jakarta Police Department said on Friday that 875 officers would guard US Embassy. "Police guarantee that there will be no disruption in the embassy," the Chief of Indonesian National Police, Timur Pradopo, said.
