REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MATARAM - The Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) said Lombok of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) would host a world meeting of SMEs in 2013. The federation chose Lombok to host the meeting as it wants to boost development of small and medium scale business in NTB, its chairman, Suryawati, said.

Small and medium enterprises could grow in NTB as well as they do in neighboring island of Bali, Suryawati said here on Friday. The planned meeting had been reported to the ministry of small and medium enterprises in Jakarta, he said.

Around 3,500 delegates from 200 countries will take part in the four-day meeting in September 2013. The central government, regional administrations and private companies will pay for the cost of the meeting.

Suryawati said the meeting was expected to serve as a milestone for small and medium enterprises development and to boost tourism in NTB especially Lombok. Lombok has a new international airport and a number of luxurious hotels have been built there.

The Head of the NTB tourism office H Lalu Gita Aryadi welcomed the upcoming event and said the regional administration had an ambition to make Lombok a major tourist destination area. He added, NTB has sought to have Lombok International Airport declared as one of entrance gates for foreign tourism into the country.
