REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG - Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) holds International Muslim Student Summit (IMSS) 2012 from July 15-18. This event was expected to generate young "agents of change", the Rector of ITB Akhmaloka said.
"I believe that Indonesian youth can compete internationally. They have been prepared as global leader to face the new world," he said on the opening speech of IMSS in Sabuga, ITB.
Global leader, he explained, did not mean someone sitting on presidency chair, instead it meant the leader in his/her environment and democracy. "The world awaits the change at the hands of scholars," he said.
Meanwhile, the Monday meeting of this event will discuss on international Islam. The main discussion would be about Islamophobia, the Internal Secretary General of IMSS 2012, Frizal Vicha Putra, said.
"Many Westerners have prejudice towards Islam. We try to unite our idea in this event to contain the issue," he said.
IMSS is attended by other seven countries, South Korea, Egypt, Philippine, Malaysia, Mongolia, Bangladesh, and Singapore. It also invites scholars from 600 universities in Indonesia. The total participants from Indonesia are 1,990, while from abroad are 38.
