REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The Minister for Accelerated Development of Disadvantaged Region, Helmy Faishal Zaini, targets the network of telecommunication in outer islands and disadvantaged regions in Indonesia will be finished in 2012.
“We must encourage cooperation with the Ministry of Communication and Informatics to ensure the network in outer islands to be finished this year," Zaini said on Monday.
The ministry records Indonesia has 92 disadvantaged areas in which 66 of them are outer islands and 22 of them are populated by 71,000 people. "Information technology and communication are important to develop the disadvantaged area," he said.
The minister hopes the availability of telecommunication in outer islands can boost the stakeholders to improve disadvantaged areas and outer islands in Indonesia. He also hopes private and state-owned telecommunication companies can distribute Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
"Government tries to eliminate sort of disparity occurs in disadvantaged areas," he said.
The ministry has proposed the special allocation from state budget to build infrastructure project in disadvantaged areas. An agreement with the Minister of Communication and Informatics has been signed on national connectivity through information technology and communication to support the countermeasure of disadvantaged areas in Indonesia.
