REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – About 500,000 citizen of Palestine needed at least 3.5 billion USD of investment, the Executive Director of Wafaa Indonesia, Izzuddin Edi Siswanto, said. Wafaa has helped Palestine with 300 to 5,000 USD per project.
“Apparently, their rate of return in financing program reaches 99.3 percent. This is non-profit program because the system is without interest," Siswanto said on Sunday.
Witnessing the Palestinian spirit, he hopes the aid keeps continuing. Through online transaction, Wafaa has recruited donors from around the world. The donors can see the profile of Palestinian people. They can pay with their credit cards or other payments with the minimum of 20 USD.
The report or any excess funds will be returned to the donors as they only gain profit from dividend. "Wafaa is trying to seek innovation of financing for Palestinian refugees who live under poverty line," he said.
Indonesia, Siswanto said, was an example of Wafaa partner countries in micro financing. The total of the financing from every country reaches 600,000 USD.
As a non-profit organization, Wafaa is formed in 2008 after the recommendation by the International Humanitarian Conference on the Assistance for the victims of Occupation and Refugee to form and establish the development of the resources and capacities of the victims of occupation and refugee program. In Indonesia, Wafaa is officially established on April 16, 2009.
For economic empowerment program, Wafaa cooperates with Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and United Nations Development Program (UNDP). IDB has signed the trust fund with Palestine on February 8 in the amount of 3 million USD.
The institution also uses the service of Global Innovation Solution to seek the latest model of aid capacity improvement. "The refugees also need basic skills to open new industry with innovation technology basis," the Acting Director of Global Innovation Solution, Graeme Coomber said.
