REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – General Election 2014 was predicted to be a party for public figures turning their profession into the members of House of Representatives, the Chairman of the Central Board of Gerindra, Martin Hutabarat, said on Friday.

“General Election draft signed into law yesterday. But this morning I received two texts from public figures who asked me how to enter Gerindra,” Hutabarat said, but refused to mention the name.

Both of the public figures are singers. He also said that those who had big capital would also fill the list of legislative candidate. “The quality people will be defeated by the capital owners and public figures,” he added.

Many public figures have involved in politics since general election 2009, the first open system. Some public figures sit in the House are Nurul Arifin, Rieke Diah Pitaloka, Dedi Gumelar, Eko Patrio, Primus Yustisio, Rachel Maryam, and Venna Melinda.

“Public figures have good popularity that makes their chance big. If they want to be involved, the mechanism should be made because many public figures never talk after they are elected,” he said.

He said the phenomenon was due to the imposition of open election system in revised law number 10/2008 on the general election members of House of Representatives, Local House of Representatives, and Regional Representative Council.
