REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – About 22,000 officers will be on duty to conduct three main tasks ahead of government’s plan to increase the fuel price on April 1. Their tasks are to monitor the rallies then secure vital objects and gas stations.

Police have received a report that 8,000 protesters of labors, students, and non-governmental organizations will be on stage tomorrow in several places in Jakarta. They plans to start the protest on 10.00 until 17.00 at local time.

Most of them would be concentrated on three usual protest spots, namely Hotel Indonesia traffic circle, parliamentary complex and Presidential Palace, Jakarta Police Spokesman, Rikwanto, said on Monday.

Indonesian Military is also involved in protecting vital objects, including airport and Presidential Palace. Other officers will secure the rallies and around 540 gas stations in Jakarta, Depok, Tanggerang and Bekasi.

“Meanwhile, for Pertamina in Plumpang and Digul Kresek, Police have prepared a task force which also involves Indonesian military,” Rikwanto said. The officer will also keep an eye on distribution and the potency of fuel scarcity.
