REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDA ACEH – Aceh will promote traditional horse racing as a tourist attraction. "We are optimistic that the traditional horse racing held twice a year can attract more tourists to Central Aceh," a local official, Windi Darsa, said recently.
The local government plans to hold the horse racing twice a year on Indonesian independent day (August 17) and Takengon birthday in February. The traditional race requires the jockey riding his horse without saddle.
To attract more tourists, similar eventa are also held in other regions such Tanah Gayo highland, Bener Meriah and Gayo Lues.
"We are optimistic that Central Aceh tourism will be better if it is supported by infrastructures. All social elements must involve here to develop tourism sector," Darsa said.
