REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALEMBANG – Indonesia is elected as member of three of four committees of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (PUIC) in the 7th PUIC Conference in Palembang on Saturday. PIUC is holding the conference from January 24 to 31.
An Indonesian delegate, Atte Sugandi, said Indonesia represented Asia in PUIC`s three committees, namely the Politic and International Relations Committee, the Human Rights, Women, and Family Affairs Committee, and the Cultural, Law, Civilization and Religious Affairs Committee. Each committee has four members from four different countries and Indonesia is not included in the Economic and Environmental Affairs Committee.
The Politic and International Relations Committee consist of representatives from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Iran, and Turkey. The Human Rights, Women, and Family Affairs Committee`s members comprise representatives from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Malaysia, and Pakistan. As for the Cultural, Law, Civilization and Religious Affairs Committee, the members are representatives of Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia and Turkey. The Economic and Environmental Affairs Committee`s members are representatives from Azerbaijan, Malaysia, Pakistan, and Turkey.
PUIC members are all parliaments from OIC countries. The Palembang's conference is attended by representatives of 37 countries, including Afghanistan, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Gabon, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Kyrgyz, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Mali, Mauritania, and Morocco. In addition, Mozambique, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Togo, Tunisia, Turkey, and United Arab Emirates.
