REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The General Election Commission (KPU) has targeted that the production of ballot papers could be started on Saturday, Jan 19. It would be printed by a printing company that won the tender.
"Today, we will hold a meeting to discuss the logistics for voting. (The ballot papers) can be printed, starting from Saturday," KPU Chief Arief Budiman stated here on Friday.
The commission and Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) will monitor the printing process in three areas: Jakarta, Makassar, and East Java. Budiman stressed that production of general election logistics will require tighter monitoring to avoid excessive production and to ensure the appropriate paper quality and its color.
"The quality must be strictly verified," he noted.
The commission will also ensure that ballot papers will reach the intended locations on time.
"We want all parties to see that KPU has worked transparently. The KPU has also deployed police officers and its personnel at the printing locations," Budiman remarked.
The KPU has involved the Bawaslu, KPK, and the Indonesian Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) to monitor the procurement of poll materials.
Indonesia will organize presidential elections on Apr 17. The KPU has forecast that some 192 million eligible voters will participate in this democratic process that is expected to go fairly, democratically, and peacefully.
