Indonesia is the most important partner: Chinese PM

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BEIJING -- Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang received Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi in Beijing on Friday. The meeting occured during the third meeting of the RI-China Joint Commission of Bilateral Cooperation, held on February 8-9, 2018.

"We usually do not receive any visitor ahead of the Chinese New Year but Indonesia is our most important partner," Li said. Besides his gratitude to Marsudi, he expressed hope that the RI-China bilateral relations will be improved in future.

According to Marsudi, economic and trade relationship between Indonesia and China is increasing and she hoped that in the future as well, this relationship remains mutually beneficial for both countries. During her stay in Beijing, Minister Marsudi was also scheduled to meet her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi. Issues, especially pertaining to investment and tourism, were discussed during the bilateral meeting.

International and regional issues, including the crisis on the Korean Peninsula, the current situation in Myanmar, and the follow-up of the agreement on framework of the code of conduct (CoC) in the South China Sea, were also discussed.

"We encourage the positive momentum that needs to be continued with regard to the CoC framework because it needs to be emphasised that Indonesia and China are two big countries in the region. Of course, what we do has an impact on the region," Indonesian Foreign Ministry's spokesperson Arrmanatha Nasir said.

Before conducting the series of bilateral meetings, Minister Marsudi also visited the Tsinghua University campus in Beijing to follow up on the technopark program based on the agreement made during the visit of President Joko Widodo to Beijing in May, 2017.

Meanwhile, the senior officials' meeting (SOM) held in the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday successfully submitted the report, to foreign ministers of both countries, regarding the bilateral cooperation, including the planned visit of Chinese delegation to Indonesia to follow up on some issues that have been agreed upon together.
