Attack to preacher Abdul Basit, Police: It's a pure crime

Prior to the attack, preacher Basit tries to warn local youngsters to be more behave.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA --  West Jakarta Police confirmed the case of attack to an Islamic religious leader, preacher Abdul Basit, was a pure crime. Preacher Basit was attacked by dozens of youngsters in front of his house in Syahdan Street, Palmerah, West Jakarta on Sunday (Feb 11). He was stabbed by knive and suffered several injuries on his left hand.

However, the investigators still continue to deepen each actors role in the case. "We can say it's a crime, no other issue and we've collaborated with religious leaders in investigating the case," said West Jakarta Police head, Hengki Haryadi on Sunday (Feb 11).

He asked attack to Basit case not to be developed into different issues. Moreover, currently cases related to attack and persecution of Islamic preachers and clerics were happening recently.

According to the police, Basit attack case happened when he admonished a group of youngsters who often to act against the wisdom manners norms, such as create commotions and urinate carelessly. Local residents disturbed by the youngsters behaviour. The past two weeks, preacher Basit have been trying to warn the teenagers.

Police said there are three suspects have arrested, The special team from the institution was established to continue search for the other suspects.
