Jokowi, JK to perform Eid al-Adha prayers at different city

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) reportedly joined the echoing of Takbir (recitation of laudation "God is great" (Allahu Akbar) at the mosque "Masjid Agung" in the West Java provincial city of Sukabumi on Thursday evening, the eve of Eid al-Adha.

According to the Sukabumi mayor, M Muraz, the president will also perform the Eid al-Adha (Idul Adha 1438 H) prayer along with the people at the Masjid Agung on Friday morning (Sept 1, 2017).

On his way to Sukabumi, the president was reported to have performed the sunnah fasting of the 9th of Dhu al-Hijjah.

Meanwhile, Vice President Jusuf Kalla was scheduled to perform the Eid al-Adha prayer along with the people in the Istiqlal great mosque in Jakarta.

"Yes, (I will) perform the Eid al-Adha prayer along with (my) family in the Istiqlal mosque," Kalla said in his office in Jakarta on Wednesday.

In the meantime, more than 2 million pilgrims from around the world are currently in Arafat (Mecca) to carry out the "Wukuf", while in Indonesia, millions of Muslims will perform Eid al-Adha prayers on Friday morning across the country.

During the wukuf, the haj pilgrims, melt down into a single rhytmic recite "labbaik Allahumma labbaik, or "Here I am, O Allah, Here I am."

Around 221 thousand Indonesian Muslims are among the millions of haj pilgrims carrying out the Wukuf in the Arafat this year.

Millions of Muslims in different regions of Indonesia, from Sabang, the country's westernmost Province of Aceh to the easternmost Province of Papua are expected to perform the prayers of Idul Adha or feast of the sacrifice on Friday morning.
