REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Setya Novanto has requested legal protection from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) related to his status as suspect in e-ID card graft case.
According to him, the letter of request was submitted three weeks ago.
He was still waiting for President's answer.
"I obeyed the law and I have taken steps since the investigation warrant was issued. I also have submitted a letter to request legal protection to the President, the National Police chief and Attorney General Office," Novanto who wore an orange vest of detainee said after being examined by Corruption Eradication Commission, on early Monday (November 20).
His lawyer, Fredrich Yunadi said, based on his experience the respond to such request would not be immediate.
"It could be answered a year later," he said.
Novanto was released from Cipto Mangunkusumo hospital on Sunday (November 19) night.
Previously, a day after Novanto got car accident, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) called on him to be willing to follow every legal process initiated by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
"I urge Mr Setya Novanto to follow the existing legal process," President Jokowi said in Jakarta on Friday (November 17).
