SBY reminds govt to immediately revise Ormas law

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) used his personal Twitter account to comment on the newly Mass Organizations (Ormas) law which was originated from a legalized Lieu of Law (Perppu) No. 2/2017.

He stated, revision on Ormas law should be done immediately.

"I hope that the revision of Ormas law will be done soon, so we will have law of Mass Organizations which good for the people and state," SBY who is also chairman of Democratic party tweeted on Thursday (Oct 26). 

He reiterated Democratic party faction stance was to pass Perppu Ormas into law with some notes. 

SBY said the faction asked revision must be done soon after it was passed into law. He affirmed, Democratic party faction will reject the bill if the government did not revise Ormas law. 

SBY also said, the substance on Perppu No. 2/2017 has right. Neverthless, he noticed that some parts were not in line with the spirit of Constitution.

"There are things not really right, unfair, and also inconsistent with the spirit of our Constitution, so Democratic Party faction has shown support to pass Perppu Ormas into law, but only if revised," SBY explained.

Ormas law gave the government the power to disband an organization without due process. It also prohibits any organization to adopt and spread an ideology contradicting Pancasila.

The House of Representative (DPR) approved Perppu Ormas into law on Tuesday (October  24). 

Seven factions approved and supported it into law, meanwhile three factions refused it.

Government support parties such as PDI-P, Golkar, Nasdem, and Hanura were still solid to support the Perppu to be passed into law. 

Meanwhile, PKB, PPP and the Democratic Party accepted and supported it with some notes. 

However, there were three factions who refused, namely Gerindra Party, PKS and PAN.
