This shows the country's transport sector has continued to expand," Chief Executive of state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II Muhammad Awaluddin said.

Awaluddin said Skytrains would be the first crewless means of transport in Indonesia using the "automated guideway transit" system operated ahead of the Asian Games in the country in 2018.

However, in the first phase the Skytrain would operate with six crew members as part of the efforts of familiarization and socialization, he said, adding later, it would operate without crew,.

He said in the following phases Skytrains would link Terminal 3, Terminal 2, airport railway station and Terminal 1 covering a total distance of two tracks of 3,050 meters.

"When it fully operational, the headway of Skytrain would be set every five minutes with total coverage of seven minutes," he said.

The Skytrain facility has been built at a cost of Rp950 billion including Rp530 billion for the procurement of the sets of train and Rp420 billion for the construction of the routes.

The sets of trains was procured by state-owned electronic equipment company PT LEN Industri and Woojin from South Korea, and construction of the route and shelters was handled by PT Wijaya Karya Tbk and PT Indulexco.

"Skytrain is a result of synergy between three state companies Angkasa Pura II, LEN Industri, and Wijaya Karya. We hope the synergy serves as a good example m for other state companies to support the national development," Awaluddin said.
