REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KENDARI -- Department of Manpower and Transmigration of Southeast Sulawesi revealed that 357 foreign workers have begun to enter the province.
"We monitored in 17 districts in Southeast Sulawesi. Indeed we've found hundreds of foreign workers in this province," said Head of Department of Manpower and Transmigration of Southeast Sulawesi, Armunanto, in Kendari, Friday (27/11).
He said the foreign workers spread over seven districts in Southeast Sulawesi, namely Konawe, South Konawe, Kolaka, North Konawe, Wakatobi, Kendari, and North Kolaka.
"The largest number is in Konawe as many as 258 people. Then in South Konawe 29 people, Kolaka 24 people, North Konawe 22 people, Wakatobi 14 people, Kendari eight people, and North Kolaka two people," he explained.
According to Armunanto, the foreign workers came by using work visa to work in some mining companies in Southeast Sulawesi. He also dismissed that Southeast Sulawesi was flooded with hundreds of foreign workers every day.
"That's not true. Those people are not necessarily work in Southeast Sulawesi, but they could be towards the outside area, such as Central Sulawesi," Armunanto said.
Government, he added, continued to monitor and protect foreign workers who have specific skills abilities.
