REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MANADO -- Germany became the main export destination for coconut flour from North Sulawesi Province in August 2016.
"In August 2016, coconut flour exported to Germany grew significantly compared to other destination countries," said Head of Industry and Commerce of North Sulawesi Province Jenny Karouw in Manado on Monday.
Jenny noted that coconut flour exported to Germany in August 2016 amounted to as much as 269 tons and was able to generate income for the country to the tune of US$477.775.
She said coconut flour shipments abroad take place continuously, indicating that products derived from coconut are in great demand by the people of Germany.
The government hopes farmers and exporters will further improve product quality so that demand remains high.
She said the government will continue to facilitate and assist in providing certificates of origin and other export certification, while finding new markets through promotions conducted both domestically and abroad.
Countries in Europe, she said, are particularly interested in products derived from coconuts in North Sulawesi, especially coconut flour, for which demand remains high every month.
"The high demand is expected to be put to good use by the farmers and exporters of North Sulawesi," she explained.
