REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SOUTH TANGERANG -- The Commission of General Election (KPU) has yet to ensure when the regional head elections in five regions in Indonesia will be implemented, according to KPU spokesman Ferry Kurnia.

"The elections in five regions on Wednesday were postponed, but until when, we cannot ascertain as the legal process is still ongoing," Kurnia stated in South Tangerang on Wednesday.

The KPU spokesman further added that he could not confirm whether the elections in the five regions would be conducted simultaneously or separately as it depends on the legal ruling.

According to Kurnia, the KPU should not intervene in the judiciary, but he opined that the legal process was intended to make the elections run better.

"The implementation of elections in the five regions will depend on the legal ruling. If not implemented simultaneously, it will be difficult," Kurnia noted.

He explained that the Commission had decided to postpone the implementation of the elections in the province of Central Kalimantan and Fak-Fak district as the State Administrative High Court had not yet taken a final decision.

Meanwhile, Kurnia said the delay in holding the elections in the Districts of Siantar and Simalungun, and Manado was due to an interim decision of the court.

"We are still waiting as there is an interim decision. The implementation of regional elections must await the final verdict of the court," he said.

Kurnia explained that the Commission will take legal action in the form of an appeal, and in case there is no response from the Supreme Court, the Commission will follow up on the readiness of the polling stations.

He clarified that it was related to meeting logistical readiness such as distribution, human resources, and honorarium of the election officials.

"It all must be fulfilled in order to ensure a more comprehensive implementation of the elections," he affirmed.
