Parliament urges armed forces to set regulation about hijab soon

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Member of Commission III of Parliament (DPR), Arsul Sani, said the written rules about the use of hijab for women TNI soldier needed to be created soon. It is because the policies that allow hijab for women TNI soldiers have been submitted by the TNI Commander, General Moeldoko.

"If the policies already communicated to the public, then the rules need to be drafted by the military. Later, the rules must be clear and unequivocal, all for the three forces, both Army (AD), Air Force (AU) and the Navy (AL)," said Arsul when contacted by ROL, on Thursday, May 28.

If it not drafted soon, the existing policies could become polemic, both internally among military and parties outside the military. Besides, there is need factors to hasten regulatory the procedure of hijab.

According to Arsul, it was related to desire of Muslim TNI women soldiers who want to run their religious duty. "If not dealt it carefully, of course there is no standard in the use of the hijab among female soldiers," he added.

Arsul added that later this regulations will be poured in the form of a decree (SK) and Regulation of TNI Commander.

Previously reported, TNI Commander General Moeldoko gave a positive signal that allows TNI women soldiers to wear hijab. A number of the Muslims welcome this statement.

However, Head of Information Center of TNI (Kapuspen TNI) Major General M. Fuad Basya denied the statement. According to him, the hijab likely to affect the solidity among the soldiers.
