DPR urges govt to investigate circulation of synthetic rice

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of Commission IV of House of Representatives (DPR) Edhy Prabowo asked the government to take immediate steps related to the release of rice from plastic materials in the community. He asked the government to immediately investigate the circulation of the fake rice.

"We urge the government to investigate and withdraw the rice when it is found," said Edhy at House of Representatives, Jakarta, on Wednesday, May 20.

Edhy said the government should know the origin of the fake rice, considering Indonesia no longer importing rice. He also reminded the public and all stakeholders to be vigilant in the middle of the free market today.

"In the Ministry of Agriculture has reminded the attempts of circulation of illegal goods in Indonesia should be supervised, so we must strengthen the quarantine institution," he said.

In addition, the Gerindra politician said the government through the Ministry of Agriculture must also continue to tighten and strengthen oversight of all goods that enter and circulate.

"So the thing that must be dobe on the near future is; the bill of laws (RUU) must be executed quickly," said Edhy.

Previously, a resident in Bekasi, West Java, named Dewi claimed to have received fake rice. Rice allegedly made of plastic synthesis would be difficult to mix with water, cooking.

The rice was purchased by a woman called Dewi in rice trader for 8 thousand IDR per liter. Nevertheless, in one liter, not all rice was fakes. Allegedly plastic rice was intentionally mixed with the original rice.
