REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PARIS -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) visited the Indonesian pavilion at the Parc Des Expositions Du Bourget here in France on the sidelines of the 21st Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP21) on Monday.

Jokowi was accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi, Environmental Affairs Minister Siti Nurbaya, and Chief of the Presidential Staff Teten Masduki during the visit.

While speaking at the COP21, or the Paris Climate Change Conference earlier, the president expressed hope that an ambitious agreement would be reached during the climate meeting in Paris to make the earth a better place and to improve the people's welfare.

"Reaching an agreement in Paris is a must. I hope we are all part of a solution to make the earth a more convenient place for our children and grandchildren," Jokowi told 147 heads of state and government at the Leaders' Event here on Monday.

He remarked that the Paris climate agreement should reflect balance and justice in line with the nation's priorities and capabilities and should be sustainable though not posing a hurdle in the growth of developing countries.

"In order to reach an agreement in Paris, all countries, especially developed nations, should contribute to the actions of mitigation and adaptation," he added.

The contribution could be through the mobilization of financing worth US$100 billion until 2020 to be increased in the following years, with transfer of environmentally friendly technologies and capacity expansion.

As one of the countries with the largest forests that serve as the lungs of the world, Indonesia chose to be part of a solution, the president pointed out.
