REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALEMBANG -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is scheduled to attend the World Food Day event at Jakabaring in Palembang, South Sumatra, on Saturday (Oct 17).

Speaking to the press after attending a meeting here on Tuesday, South Sumatra Governor H Alex Noerdin asked the South Sumatra Provincial Food Security Agency, the event's organizing committee, to make good preparations for it.

Hopefully, the commemoration of the World Food Day will be successful and all preparations must be made carefully since the event will be attended by the President, he said.

Head of the Provincial Food Security Agency Taufik Gunawan, one of the event's organizers, said all preparations were on and final touches were being given.

He said he was himself monitoring the preparations for the commemoration of the World Food Day to make it a success.

While in South Sumatra, President Joko Widodo is also expected to plant rice at Palu village, Pemulutan sub-district, Ogan Ilir district.

Several programs will highlight the commemoration of the World Food Day, including a farm exhibition, a menu creating contest and a cooking demonstration.
