REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- US Secretary of State John F Kerry spoke by phone with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia Retno Marsudi, recently. 

According to a statement sent to Republika on Friday, Secretary Kerry expressed condolences about the loss of Indonesia AirAsia Flight 8501, noting that "Our thoughts are with the passengers, the crew, and their families." The Secretary said that the United States was continuing to actively engage in the search effort.

"The State Department will continue to work closely with technical experts in Indonesia and US Defense Department officials to see how else we can help," he said.
