REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia opens opportunities for cooperation with Russian companies in the development of strategic railway corridors. This was revealed by Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), on Sunday in Jakarta.
AHY states that as the largest island nation in the world with 17,380 islands and a population of about 280 million people, transportation is the vein that unites nations and connects the entire archipelago.
Indonesia still needs to develop a railway network to strengthen national connectivity. Therefore, the country opens opportunities for Russian companies to participate in projects such as Trans-Sumatra, Trans-Sulawesi, and Trans-Borneo.
These cooperation opportunities include not only network building, but also technology development and manufacturing of railway infrastructure, high-speed and heavy-haul rail engineering, improvement of safety and operational standards, and development of low-carbon railways.
Strengthening human resources and research capacity is also a focus. Russia's experience in managing public transport systems, especially the Moscow Metro, can serve as a valuable reference for the development of MRT, LRT, and commuter rail in Indonesia.
The meeting between AHY and the Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, Andrey Nikitin, in Moscow was part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and Russia, in particular in the development of modern, sustainable and competitive transport.
