REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- PSSI General Chairman Erick Thohir is optimistic that Simon Tahamata will perform his duties well as Head of Talent Guiding or Head of Scouting at PSSI, after the two met in Jakarta on Wednesday (28/5/2025).
Erick said this was because Simon had plenty of experience as an academy or youth coach at four different clubs, including Ajax Amsterdam for 15 years (2004-2009, 2014-2024).
“With the experience we have, we believe Om Simon can find talented players, especially in Indonesia, to strengthen Indonesian football,” Erick said on his official Instagram account.
Simon was appointed Chief Talent Guide of PSSI last week. In this position, Simon will be responsible for identifying and recruiting potential talents both from within the country and the Indonesian diaspora abroad, particularly in the Netherlands.
He will work closely with Indonesia national coach Patrick Kluivert, Indonesia U-23 national coach Gerald Vanenburg, and Indonesia U-17 national coach Nova Arianto and others. This is to ensure the sustainability, quality and development of the Indonesian national team and football.
“Met with Simon Tahamata who will serve as Head of Scouting for the Indonesian national team. Om Simon will look for the best talents who will strengthen the Indonesian national team, working with all national coaches,” he wrote.
On meeting Erick, Simon expressed his enthusiasm for working for Indonesian football. “I'm looking forward to it,” said the man who, when he met Erick, was wearing the batik.
