REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Indonesian Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Djiwandono announced that the Anagata Nusantara Daya Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara) will not use the government's shares in state-owned enterprises (SOEs) under its management as collateral. He said itu during the press conference of our State Budget 2025 at the Ministry of Finance Office, Central Jakarta, Thursday (13/3/2025).

Thomas, who is also the nephew of President Prabowo Subianto, explained that the Government established BPI Danantara through Law No. 1 of 2025 to strengthen the role of state-owned enterprises. Danantara is responsible for enhancing and optimizing investments, as well as managing the operationalization of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and other funding sources.

In carrying out its duties, Danantara has the authority to manage the dividends of SOEs and approve the addition or reduction of capital participation in SOEs derived from the management of dividends.

“It is important to emphasize, that Danantara will not use the government's shares as collateral. These shares serve as the foundational assets that generate dividends, which are then utilized by Danantara for investment purposes. This underscores the commitment to safeguarding the government's equity, ensuring it remains intact and is not mortgaged,” insists Thomas.

The Gerindra Party politician also stressed that, in the current mechanism, dividends earned from the profits of state-owned enterprises in Danantara will be optimized by managing through investment.

“The mechanism operates through dividends generated from the revenue and profits of each state-owned enterprise (SOE) within Danantara's portfolio. These dividends are then allocated as investments, forming the basis of the dividend investment pool, which will be strategically leveraged for further growth and optimization,” he explained.

BPI Danantara was officially launched by RI President Prabowo Subianto on Monday (24/2/2025). This one of the top global sovereign wealth fund (SWF) will manage assets worth more than 900 billion US dollars or about Rp 14.611 trillion, sourced from jumbo SOE and the Indonesia Investment Authority (INA). The fund will be used to finance sustainable and high-impact projects in various sectors, thus being able to boost the economy towards Prabowo's target of 8 percent.

“Danantara was formed with an initial capital of Rp 1,000 trillion, which came from the inclusion of state capital in the form of state-owned shares in state-owned enterprises and cash funds,” Thomas explained.
