REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Head of the Organizing Agency for Halal Products Assurance (BPJPH) Ahmad Haikal Hasan, known as Babe Haikal, ensures the compliance of the halal industry ecosystem with the guarantee of halal or halal products, which will drive the economic growth rate of 8 percent as targeted by the government.
“If our halal ecosystem from upstream to downstream is halal orderly, I am sure that our ambition to become the number one producer of halal products in the world will be realized, and our halal sector is sure to make an important contribution to sustaining the 8 percent economic growth target set by President Prabowo,” Babe Haikal said in Jakarta on Monday (13/1/2025).
Babe Haikal explains that such optimism is not without reason. Therefore, the magnitude of halal economic potential is very wide open. The State of the Global Economy (SGIE) Report 2023 reports that global Muslim consumer spending is $2.29 trillion across six sectors of the real economy (in 2022), and is projected to reach $3.1 trillion by 2027.
The development of the 6 rill sectors is supported by the sharia financial sector as an enabler, which in 2021/2022 has assets of 3.9 trillion US Dollars, projected to increase to 5.9 trillion US Dollars by 2025/2026.
“Trade data also show that Indonesia recorded exports of halal products worth 41.42 billion US dollars or equivalent to Rp 673.90 trillion in the period from January to October 2024,” said Babe Haikal.
Babe Haikal explained that, in the same period, Indonesia's halal products trade surplus reached 29.09 billion US Dollars. Regarding the export performance of halal products January-October 2024, the processed food sector dominated the export value of 33.61 billion US dollars, followed by Muslim clothing 6.83 billion US dollars, pharmaceuticals 612.1 million US dollars, and cosmetics 362.83 million US dollars.
“The potential of world trade in halal products continues to increase as data shows that the spending figures of the world's Muslim community are projected to continue to increase, which is a huge potential of the halal economy that we should not miss,” said Babe Haikal.
