REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BSI) is expanding its remittance or remittance services in 12 partner countries, namely Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and the United States. The move is an attempt by BSI to improve access to financial services for Indonesians abroad.

BSI Sales & Distribution Director Anton Sukarna said, BSI continues to strengthen services for Indonesian citizens (WNI) wherever they are. With the expansion of remittance services in 12 partner countries, Indonesians abroad can more easily access the financial services they need, including remittances.

“We continue to expand the network across BSI's e-channel to optimize retail services for customers, both domestically and abroad. This is a step by BSI towards the role of a universal bank that can serve customers abroad through remittance services,” Anton said on Monday (28/10/2024).

Anton also explained that BSI recently participated in an annual event with its Japanese remittance partner, Kyodai Remittance, entitled “Indonesia-Japan Friendship Festival”. The event took place on October 19-20, 2024 and was attended by about 10 thousand visitors. Currently, Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) in Japan account for more than 180 thousand people. Anton, the growing number of PMIs in Japan is a great potential for BSI's remittance business from Japan to Indonesia.

In terms of transaction achievements, BSI registered more than 1.2 million remittance transactions, both for incoming and outgoing shipments from Indonesia, with growth reaching more than 20 percent annually.

“We are optimistic that this figure will continue to increase with the addition of partners and countries that establish remittance cooperation with BSI,” Anton added.

BSI has also adopted integrated Application Programming Interface (API) technology, making it easy for customers to transact in real-time, anytime and anywhere. BSI's services are aimed at providing flexibility and convenience for customers, especially for migrant workers far from the Homeland.

In addition, to increase the range of services, BSI plans to continue to increase the number of remittance partner countries. This is expected to make it easier for PMI to send money to Indonesia and support the activities of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) and the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in the destination countries.

With competitive rates, 24-hour service, responsive complaint handling, and application of Sharia principles, Anton is confident the service will continue to grow positively.

“We are optimistic that this remittance service will grow rapidly, especially as we provide services that comply with Sharia principles and are committed to supporting the financial needs of Indonesians abroad,” Anton concluded.
