REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir moved quickly to implement the food self-sufficiency target announced by President Prabowo Subianto. The second day after being sworn in as SOE Minister for the second term, Erick directly accosted the Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman in the office of the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan).

“We have the first coordination meeting. There will be a second, third, fourth, and fifth,” Erick said during a press meeting with Mentan Amran at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office, Jakarta, Tuesday (21/10/2024).

Erick delivered the inaugural report with Mentan discussing a number of strategic efforts to correct the problems in the food sector. Erick said SOEs are ready to cooperate and collaborate more closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to succeed Prabowo's vision and mission regarding national food independence.

“We have a full agreement to support the program of Mr. President Prabowo through Mr. Mentan Amran for us to synergize all the policies that are necessary for the Ministry of Agriculture,” Erick said.

Therefore, Erick also brought a number of ministries of state-owned enterprises and state-owned enterprises engaged in the food sector. During the meeting, Erick was accompanied by Deputy Minister of State Ownership Kartika Wirjoatmodjo, President Director of PT Pupuk Indonesia Rahmad Pribadi and President Director of Perum Bulog Wahyu Suparyono.

“I together with Mr. Wamen brought Dirut Bulog to make sure Bulog could operate the market according to its conditions,” Erick said.

In addition, Erick also conveyed the great role of PT Pupuk Indonesia in supporting the strengthening of Indonesia's agricultural ecosystem. Erick reiterated the SOE's commitment to crack down decisively on illegal behaviour that harms farmers in order to obtain fertiliser.

“Then there is also (Dirut) Pupuk Indonesia where we make sure there is also no more messing around in the fertilizer. We will eradicate the name of the parties that have been hindering. This will be conveyed later by the Minister,” Erick continued.

Erick also set up PTPN to assist the Ministry in improving national food productivity. Erick said this was a form of SOEs seriousness in being part of the ecosystem to achieve food self-sufficiency.

“There will be a policy for PTPN to also allocate land that is needed for food self-sufficiency and also ask for support from ID Food, because the conditions are not healthy,” Erick said.
