REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Ahead of the inauguration of president-vice president-elect 2024-2029 Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming, various speculations arose regarding the nomenclature of ministries to be established, one of which is the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.
Ministry of Religious Affairs Spokesperson Sunanto said that there was no discussion in the ministry's internal affairs regarding the plans for the establishment of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah in the era of Prabowo Subianto's government.
“No, no talks yet. Therefore, it is the president's policy,” Sunanto told reporters when he met after attending a media gathering in Jakarta on Monday (7/10/2024).
He said this in response to a journalist's question on the issue of setting up a ministry dedicated to managing Hajj and Umrah in the era of the new government period 2024—2029.
According to the man known as Cak Nanto, the Ministry of Religious Affairs does not have the authority to discuss the formation of a special Hajj ministry. The Ministry of Religious Affairs, said he will continue to follow all the rules and policies of the Prabowo Subianto government. That is not the authority of the Ministry of Religious Affairs either, whatever the policy of the new government, we will definitely implement, so we will go with it,” he said.
Nevertheless, Cak Nanto believes that a thorough study is needed if the new government will establish a special Hajj ministry.” Again there needs to be a more mature study, yes, not just the rush about separation and not separation, yes, the infrastructure and so on. But if it is in the Ministry of Religious Affairs, there has been no talk yet,” he said.
