Indonesian Ulema Assembly (MUI) called on Muslims to remain solidly in support of the Palestinian independence struggle. That support can be realized through the boycott movement of Israeli products and all those affiliated.

MUI has issued Fatwa Number 83 of 2023 on the Law of Support to the Palestinian Struggle. In it, the large umbrella of Islamic community organizations (ormas) prohibits attitudes in favor of Israeli aggression. Muslims are also prohibited from supporting parties that help Israel, either directly or not.

The following is the opinion of scholars on the illegality of converging or interacting with parties fighting Muslims, quoted from the quotation in FATWA MUI Number 83 of 2023:

First, the opinion of Imam Nawawi in Sharah Shahih Muslim 11/40:

When the Muslim community is allowed to trade in the United States of America, it is not possible to carry out the sanctions we will be able to carry out our sanctions against the people of the United States.

“All Muslims have observed or agreed on the necessity of dealing with the Zimmah and other infidels as long as it does not fall within the forbidden. But Muslims must not sell weapons to the enemies of Islam who are fighting Islam, nor should they help them in upholding their religion.”

Second, the opinion of Sayyid 'Abdur Rahman ibn Muhammad ibn Husayn ibn 'Umar Ba 'Alawi al-Hadhrami in the book of Bughyatul Mustarshidin/ 260:

“If he thinks that he is using it for cruelty, such as silk for adults, wine for drunkenness, slaves for immorality, weapons for robbery and cruelty, opium, cannabis and nutmeg for narcotics, then all that is forbidden.”

Third, the opinion of Sayyid Ramadan al-Buthi in his fatwas:

“It is imperative to boycott American and Israeli food and commercial products, as this includes jihad which is easy for any Islamic person to face aggression from Israel.”

Fourth, Ibn al-Hajj al-Fasy al-Maliki in Al-Madhal (11/78) stated that Jews and Christians could build their own economy, but they should not sell products to Muslims, nor should Muslims buy from them.

The global boycott movement, including in Indonesia, targets products affiliated with Israel. This list of products has also been issued by agencies such as the BDS Movement and Yayasan Kesukan Muslim Indonesia (YKMI).
