Mees Hilgers and Eliano Reijnders were Sworn in as Indonesian Citizens in Belgium

Mees and Eliano were sworn in at the Indonesian Embassy to Belgium.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian national team is sure to get two additional ammunition to strengthen the squad in the third round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers in the Asian zone. This was after Mees Hilgers and Eliano Reijnders officially became Indonesian Citizens (WNI).

Both players of Indonesian blood have taken their oaths on Monday (30/9/2023) in the afternoon local time or evening at the Indonesian Embassy for Belgium in Brussels (not the Netherlands as previously reported).

The first to become WNI was defending Dutch League club Twente FC, Mees Hilgers. Followed later by all-rounder Eliano Reijnders.

By undergoing this oath procession and already officially becoming WNI. These two players have been able to strengthen the Indonesian national team.

PSSI official Erick Thohir previously stated that the senior level Indonesian national team needs 2x11 players of the same quality, with the addition of these two players further helping coach Shin Tae-yong in making player rotation.
