President Jokowi Promises Bonuses for Olympic Gold Laureates

The government will give bonuses to those who perfume the nation's name.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is proud of the achievements of the athletes who managed to win medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He made sure that the government would give bonuses to those who perfume the nation's name.

“We will talk about it later, which is clear that there are definitely bonuses,” the President said in a press statement after the presentation of the TORA SK and Review of Expo Festival LIKE 2 at Jakarta Assembly Hall (JCC), Jakarta, Friday (9/8/2024).

Jokowi also praised Indonesia's success in winning two golds at the Paris 2024 Olympics through Veddriq Leonardo in men's rock climbing and Rizki Juniansyah in men's 73 kg weightlifting.

“Yes I am very happy, I appreciate it very much and I think everyone is happy about Veddriq Leonardo's gold in rock climbing and Rizki Juniansyah has just won in weightlifting. I think the country appreciates, the people can also be proud of this golden achievement,” the president said.

Earlier, Veddriq managed to secure the first gold medal for Indonesia after winning the men's speed final on Thursday (8/8/2024). Meanwhile, Rizki Juniansyah's son weightlifter won the gold medal at the men's 73 kg weightlifting event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Friday (9/8/2024).

Rizki said that the gold medal he received as a gift for the 79th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia. “Thank God I am so grateful to Allah SWT to make history the first gold medal for weightlifting at the Olympic Games. This is for Indonesian weightlifting,” Rizki said in an official statement from NOC Indonesia received in Jakarta.

The win saw Indonesia move up to 28th place in the 2024 Olympic medal table with two gold medals and one bronze, which Gregoria Mariska Tunjung of women's single badminton won.
